Setting the frequency with intricate and enigmatic piano, Nay Shalom opens her latest composition, Closure with an emotive and transcendental delivery.
Fused with organic details of a live recording, we feel immersed in the piece which takes us on a detailed and introspective journey.
As a sufferer of insomnia, Nay Shalom wishes to “instil calmness, hope and sense of peace” to those who experience her pieces. Closure has a sense of calm, but also exudes a sense of mystery.
Despite never having any classical training and playing solely by ear, the rising neo-classical artist channels the universe in her work and has already gained a publishing deal with H.I.M Taiwan (landing multiple features in Netflix and film), as well as regular play-listing by BBC Sounds and air play via BBC Introducing.
Shalom is influenced by Ludovico Einaudi, Olafur Arnolds and Sharon Lynn Makarenko to inspire her own work along with her own Celtic roots and connection with the instrument.
Closure was created due to some arduous events in Nay Shalom’s personal life, and brought her “both a sense of relief and a bittersweet ache” when it was completed.
Speaking on her artistry, Nay Shalom says, “Even with the past two years and all we’ve experienced, life can still hit us in ways we haven’t learned to cope with yet. People drift, paths alter, and I hope this piece resonates with a lot of listeners who have had the courage to reset and take leave from matters no longer serving them”.
We are obsessed with Closure, and have been exploring Nay Shalom‘s wider discography including Lay Your Head and Morning Sun. Closure has also been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
