Immersing us with elegant and detailed acoustic guitar layers, we are already hypnotized by Kargyr‘s debut release, Chronophobic.
The intricate track takes us on a poetic journey with a fusion sound designed to deliver a hybrid of modern progressive metal and Eastern harmonies.
The song suddenly expands after the first minute to envelope us in raw emotion akin to metal, with bold electric guitars and introspective lyricism as our protagonist performs the vulnerable words, “My life is chronic, I’m chronophobic, stuck in a bad loop, no left turns, only fake choices, sometimes it seems to me, that all the good times has been spent, only the bad remains, sometimes I want to end myself…”
It is important to note the definition of chronophobia, which is characterized by the fear of the passage of time, usually, because people fear that their time on Earth is limited or have trouble tracking its passing.
January 2020 marked a turning point for Kargyr, who was a metalhead singe he was a teenager. Speaking on his musical re-awakening, the rising artist says, “I know how to drum, how to play heavy guitars and extreme vocals…everything is here to make my dream come true: write, record, mix, master, distribute and promote my first solo EP!”
Although Kargyr has been a progressive metal fan and composer for over ten years, he presents a new body of work and “the first ever prog metal record made between six mattresses in a little French garage!”
Additional lyrics that stand out to us from the composition include the thought provoking commentary on fame, “more and more fame, fake news all the same”, the optimistic “distant glimmers of hope” and the profound “time takes a toll to us all, designs are all in vain”.
We love the cerebral journey that the rising artist takes us on. Kargyr proudly uses various influences taken from many metal genres (bands like Opeth, Hacride, Meshuggah, Gojira, The HU, Alien Weaponry) and adding some exotic Eastern harmonies to create nuance and originality with his work.
We have added Chronophobic to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have also been streaming The Abyss by Kargyr as well as his inspirations playlist on Spotify.
