Setting the tone with pulsing percussive drum details fused into an enigmatic and luxurious synth soundscape, we are already hypnotized by Bohardt‘s latest single, This Is What You Wanted.
We experience a riser before the Los Angeles based multi-disciplinary artist sings candidly, “Maybe you left me home but I’m crazy…” with a refined and emotive pop vocal.
Speaking on the themes of the track which include abandonment, broken communication, the human condition and desire, Bohardt wisely says, “It’s ok to still be in love with someone and choose not to be with them. Sometimes it’s best to recognize that you are better off.”
As the track expands, we experience exquisite textured vocals, unique down pitched layers, high end maximalist production and a refined and diverse soundscape fused with the artist’s message and broad and nuanced delivery.
This Is What You Wanted combines luscious ’80s-hybrid synth pop with elements of immersive underground house music. We love Bohardt‘s vocal range and emotive delivery that is genre expansive.
Speaking on his experience, he says, “I’ve been a part of many different musical acts for metal, pop punk, musical theatre, and now I now live in the Commercial/Alt Pop space.”
“I just want to write music that makes people feel better. Whether that means they want to dance or they just want to listen to the story”, continues Bohardt when discussing his artistry.
Bohardt cites Sam Smith, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, X Ambassadors, LANY and Lauv as some of his influences. We can feel elements of these artists in This Is What You Wanted, although it is clear that Bohardt is creating a universe of his own.
We have added This Is What You Wanted to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been exploring Bohardt‘s wider discography including Somebody Loved You and his EP, PHASES.
