Setting the tone with a celestial frequency fused with elegant guitar, Louie Dangerous opens his latest single, High on You with the endearing lyrics, “You smell like candy, and you’re never ever boring, no-one makes me laugh the way that you do…”
The rising artist, who spent almost a decade playing drums in the pop punk band The Years Gone By, has now released three singles as the eponymous Louie Dangerous, and we are obsessed with his fresh new sound and identity.
“Let’s get high and sing to each other, on and on until we just pass out” sings Louie Dangerous as the track expands into an anthemic journey.
Speaking on the themes of the track, Louie says, “High on You was written during the pandemic. It was a song about hanging out with your best friend. That feeling where nothing matters, you order food, have some drinks, maybe smoke, dance around, listen to music, sing the songs back and just feel good about life.”
We love the intimate and vibrant energy that the track brings. Speaking on his artistry, the Fanwood-based hybrid pop-rock star says, “Music has always been the love of my life. It’s played a role in any major event I can recall since my first childhood memory.”
He continues, “I sang into my parents tape player as a kid, and punk rock gave me a purpose through my teenage years. I spent the better part of my life in a van touring with my first band The Years Gone By. It took me a long time to find my own voice, but music gives me purpose.”
“I’m Dangerous because I’m not afraid to speak my mind and say how I feel. This project is my emotional outlet, a way to tell personal stories that may relate or help others in their day.”
We are in awe of the intention that Louie has with his art, and we love the expansiveness of High on You and the message of exploring the human condition.
Speaking on his influences, Louie says, “My taste varies, but I’ve always found one common denominator and that’s pop music. Today I’m really into Chelsea Cutler, Boy In Space, NOTD, Grayscale and Between You & Me!”
Reminiscing over the recording process, Louie leaves us with the emotional memory of “singing in the vocal booth and shedding a tear”. He says poetically, “Expressing songs I had written myself and hearing my voice back in the headphones on the tracks, was truly special to me.”
We are inspired by the rising artist’s passion and have added High on You to our New Music Spotlight playlist as well as listening to Twisted and My Whole Inside’s Gone.
