Opening with a synthetic bass experience and guitar twangs, fused with cerebral frequencies and glitches, IRYS opens her latest single, Weirdo with the introspective lyrics “Phases, I don’t have a plan, no, wanna go places, I run, but I’m too slow, you told me it matters, but you’re not real, they say it gets better, that’s not how I feel, oh…”
Weirdo takes us on a textured journey of dark electronic pop, with bright production details and intricate soundscaping that more than keep our attention.
Speaking on the message of the track, IRYS says “Weirdo is about feeling like you don’t fit in and then meeting a person who pretends they understand you, but in the end, make you feel even weirder for who you are!”
IRYS, who is based in Berlin, released five singles in 2021, which have received an enthusiastic response already. W love the guitar details and some elements of the song remind us of Lana Del Rey unreleased songs like Kinda Outta Luck and Serial Killer.
The rising artist’s sound fusing elements of indie electronica, goth and trip-hop, designed to “unite underground and mainstream”. We love her raw Berlin electro sound fused with sultry vocals and pop hooks.
Lyrical highlights include the conflicted “you make me do the things that I hate” and the wise and self-aware “it’s all just appearance, none of it matters”.
We have added Weirdo to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in IRYS‘s existing discography including Circles and Warriors.
