Setting the frequency with cerebral textures and immersive and intricate layered guitars with synth and string details, we are already hypnotized by Matthew Liam Nicholson‘s latest release, Time Machine.
The California-based Australian composer opens his latest opus with ethereal vocals, taking us on a folk-pop-hybrid journey which feels as multi-dimensional as the name of the song.
Lyrical themes include sacred geometry, celestial references, self-realization and references to the human condition and the system as we know it.
Matthew Liam Nicholson sings, “let down your guard, and cease to hide, where it’s so dark inside, squares on one side, spheres in the middle, from a round dance, to a riddle, is it right here, or just too far, are you not birthed amongst the stars? This spiralled light, and how it doth fly, everything rotating even the sky” with a thought provoking, yet luxurious energy.
The conscious California-based Australian composer also recently released a lush instrumental guided meditation album entitled Nine Movements, which is a profound 39 minutes piece which The Guardian called “theoretical and medicinal”, and put it at the top of their list of great albums in 2021. We love the intention that Matthew Liam Nicholson delivers with his work, to help us expand together.
Time Machine, which features enigmatic guitars, pedal steel, celestial string arrangements and exquisite vocal harmonies has nods to psychedelia in its name, composition and lyricism and is described as “a portal to timeless rolling hills with meadows and groves of trees in bloom – and the vista from above – the “40,000+ foot view” and then some.”
Speaking on the themes, Matthew Liam Nicholson says, “Time Machine is a waltzy dreamy meditation on circles, cycles, rotations, revelations, changing times, drawing upon my own history as a wanderer in spacetime, reflecting upon this indefinable gathering of souls from all over the universe sequestered here together on planet earth at this very weird time of transformation.”
Time Machine also come with a visual featuring the rising artist performing whilst projections of planet Earth and the universe immerse us on a more astral level.
We are really excited to have discovered Matthew Liam Nicholson and have also been listening deeply to Nine Movements, so we are grateful to the conscious and visionary artist for sharing his frequency with the world. Time Machine has also been added to our playlist.
