Enticing us with intricate vocals fused with plucked guitar and percussive soundscape details, Iuliano opens his song Uranus or Mars with the cerebral lyrics, “Under the sun, you’ll loose all you have learned…”
Uranus or Mars comes with an enigmatic visual that we are proud to premiere today, which sets the visual tone with a green and dimensional cosmic sky akin to the iconic Aurora Borealis. The video continues with flares from the sun as a pane of glass lands on the surface of the planet that we are on, unveiling a naked figure wearing glasses who begins to burn up in the light of the sun.
The video transports our protagonist, who is an incarnation of Iuliano himself, to a nature-filled scenario where he fends of plants as they cut and bruise him.
Iuliano starts to run before flying into the sky and transporting himself to another dimension, with three suns in the sky, as he sings, “whether it’s day or night”. Meanwhile, our animated and naked protagonist is staring into the sky, when he is approached by a clothed woman. The pair levitate together, whilst we witness epic landscapes and visuals as they soar.
As the couple continue to rise, but we are met with hesitation and the visual of her letting go of our hero’s hand as he plummets to the ground, landing into a pool of water as mathematics, equations and sacred geometry appear in his mind. He is wet, and a storm has commenced as the track builds with emotion. Our protagonist struggles in the pool of water and is struck by lightning, whilst Iuliano‘s vocal takes a moodier twist as the song fades out to reveal the hero floating alone in outer space. The saga is to be continued…
The way the visual brings the song to life is enigmatic and moving, and we were hypnotized the entire time! We adore Iuliano‘s vocal range and tone and how it fuses seamlessly with the instrumentation as he sings, “Ohh, c’mon just take me home, just take me where I don’t belong, where I can be alone”.
Uranus or Mars is taken from Iuliano‘s De-Algorithm EP, a mini concept series of five videos that form a single story. The intricate soundscape is performed, written, arranged, produced and mixed by Iuliano and features acoustic guitar from Luigi Stazio and Agostino Mennella on drums.
The esoteric concept album “serves a sardonic critique and near parody of the new digital world order ruled by algorithms and the plight of analog humans who must navigate life under the cold calculus of artificial reason.”
“I started this project as a testament,” says Iuliano. “If something happened to me tomorrow, I would want to have something to represent me. All of the music that I have done up until this point has been just a compromise.”
We have added Uranus or Mars to our New Music Spotlight playlist and are waiting in anticipation for the full EP to come out, which we will, no doubt, be reviewing. In the meantime, we are immersing ourselves in Iuliano‘s wider discography!
