Enticing us with a smooth blues and jazz frequency fused with enigmatic vocal “oooh’ expressions, Anton Commissaris opens his latest release, Living My Life with the lyrics, “Hey little sister, what’s the news, don’t you come on round here with the old blues…”
The song, which also serves as the lead single from the EP, Out of the Blue, tells an introspective story as he then sings to his little brother, “what do you know? all the world’s a stage, so put on your show…”
Speaking on the creation of the song, Anton Commissaris says, “I was trying to come up with a song to celebrate an old friend’s birthday. The theme was about loving life. This song popped out but was much more bluesy than another much more upbeat song that ended up being used for my friend called – Life is for Living. It was the first time a song emerged indirectly and took on a life of its own while I was trying to achieve something else.”
The lyricism is full of wisdom, as he sings, “stop crying about the things you cannot change or control…” before taking his attention directly to the audience.
There is an evocative instrumental section of the song with a featured guitar solo, saxophone journey and dimensional keys, we are immersed!
Speaking on his artistry, Anton says, “I’m a solo independent artist who composes original Jazz vocal music inflected with Rhythm & Blues, Soul, and sometimes afro-Cuban and afro-Brazilian sounds.”
“I refuse to believe the flawed credo that Jazz is dying and enjoy disproving this by recreating the vibe of classic sounds from the American songbook for the modern era”, continues the rising artist.
He confidently adds, “My music is highly diverse with no two songs sounding the same. Each song has its own character and sound with meaningful lyrics meant to convey a message. In the song, Living My Life, I convey that while life isn’t perfect, one can always do better and that its important to let go of those things that you can’t control or change.”
