Setting the tone with a pulsing synth and celestial risers, Katja Stock and Olly Lagemann open their joint EP, WEISS, with the song Ein ganzes Leben. Fused with keys, we are met with an introspective concept with the first song, which translate to English as “a whole life”.
The second verse of the song expands to include guitars, further dimensionalizing the track as vocal harmonies build the presence of the song that sings about life as we know it, the ups and downs. There is also a music video for the song featuring a great performance from the duo!
The second track from the EP is Steile Zeit which translates as Excess Time, and references the luxury of time. With the EP WEISS Katja Stock and Olly Lagemann are following their vision fusing rock, contemporary German pop in a hybrid 2022 meets 80’s sound.
Created together with producer Pete Draack (Hedge, Cats TV), the songs are
about coming together, friendship and new beginnings in the SAD REX studio.
We are obsessed with the third song, Lass die traurigkeit which is the moodiest track on the album and translates to “leave the sadness”, we love the inspiring and optimistic lyricism encouraging us to be happy and move forward with love. We love the guitar performance and rolling drums, there is also a celestial and soaring solo that gives a tonne of energy to the track, as well as the hook “na na na noa”, which we have stuck in our heads!
The final track is called Nicht Gehen which is a more subdued track opening with the piano and translating as ‘don’t go”… the song is more emotive, vulnerable and introspective showing the diversity of the duo!
Katja is the frontwoman of ‘Lost Anchor’ and ‘Docks 2850’, and Olly is from ‘Cats TV’ & ‘Loz Tinitoz and Hedge SidekickĀ“, both are are already familiar faces in Germany, so this collaboration will be met with much joy from the scene!
We have added Lass die traurigkeit to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been checking out the work of the duo as solo entities too!
