Setting the tone with glistening ripples of sound, fused with celestial textures and a luxurious saxophone, we are already immersed by Solar Sail, the latest EP from Dirty D.
Taking us on a transcendental journey across space and time, the opening and title track from the EP, Solar Sail is a cohesive blend of Jazz, Hip Hop, and classic bass work.
Speaking on the record, dubbed “an inner space themed musical”, Dirty D says, “[Solar Sail] is designed to take the listener on a journey away from the stress of life an into inner space where we can relax and let go of the weight of life. Powered by the energy from the sun and releasing all the negative vibes, Solar Sail launches us into our journey of tranquility.”
We feel the radiance from the waves of rippling synths and are under the artist’s spell. The second track from the EP is called Sonic Microgravity and opens with more minimalism before expanding within the same frequencies as its predecessor but with enigmatic valour that has more sensual undertones.
We then experience Stellar Atmosphere which kicks off with sax and bass, fused enigmatically together as we experience more intimacy and cosmic vibes from the San Diego based composer.
The fourth track is Orbital Velocity which gives us more dynamism on the saxophone and intrigue from the beat production. Dirty D is a club playing, genre bending saxophonist who has focused on the Hip Hop and Lo-fi Jazz scene with his own unique style, and this is really being brought to life exquisitely on the record.
The groundbreaking bass lines on the EP are provided by by master bassist Dubl A from Long Island, and the lo-fi, chill hop beat production is designed by D. A. on da Beat who is Club DJ from Miami.
The EP is created as an “inner spaced theme project that take us on a journey from our stress on earth to inner peace”. This is really brought to fruition on the final track, Boostback Burn.
We have been streaming the EP non stop, and have added Sonic Microgravity to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as immersing ourselves in the wider work of Dirty D!
