Immersing us with an enigmatic tech house beat and unique and almost child-like vocal samples, we are already fully hooked by Emeye‘s debut release, Da Da (Hi there!).
As the track expands, we are taken on a cerebral electronic journey that touches upon a multitude of emotions. The pulsating beat that drives the song is refined and hypnotizing and the use of vocal samples to nuance and make the track stand-out in it’s uniqueness are genius.
Speaking on the song, the mysterious Emeye says, “It’s the carefreeness of a child living in a world full of duties. It’s the youth innocence translated in music”.
We are excited by Emeye’s art and wanted to learn a little bit more about the artist behind the song that we love so much. In the marketing materials for Da Da (Hi there!) it said the following:
Constantly in evolution, experimenting, eclectic and avant-garded. Emeye is the link between the real and the virtual world. Their origin is unknown, they have no religion and sexuality; they’re politically correct. They move in the present, they’re time ahead, they forget the past. Emeye is him, is her, is them; the earth is Emeye, also the stars are Emeye. Am I Emeye?
Now we are obsessed with Emeye‘s take on oneness, as we know that we, too, are the universe.
The child-like voice that is featured on the track was sampled by the artist in France, in Paris, during the pandemic, Emeye says “I was running errands and I approached a busy supermarket with a long queue to get in. I was there trying to get something for myself when I heard a melody from the other aisle. It was a kid with a bright smile singing in his stroller; it was the most beautiful thing in that frenetic place. I asked his mum if I could record his voice; I simply sampled it…and that became a song”.
We have added Da Da (Hi there!) to our New Music Spotlight playlist and cannot wait to hear more from the enigmatic rising artist!
