With a groovy and soulful bass, Desperate Electric open their latest single, Karaoke with the yearning lyrics, “oh I knew it from the start, that you were gonna steal my heart, guess I’ll cancel all my plans, cos we can’t stand to be apart…”
The duo from Butte, Montana, have engineered an emotive and transcendental love song, which is also their first release of 2022 and the first single from the upcoming album.
We love the message of the song and soundscape which fuses futurism with a sense of familiarity. Although there are elements of indie and disco, it is during the second half of the song that we really start to experience the more experimental sonic nature of the production. We are also in love with the vocal harmony textures on Karaoke!
Speaking on the release, the duo behind Desperate Electric say, “This song tells the beginning of our story, and really the beginning of any love story; how the small moments hold a lot more weight than you realize until later on down the road.” Fans of Frank Ocean, Lawrence, The Dip, Remi Wolf and Parcels will definitely be able to connect with Desperate Electric.
Ben and Kayti continue, “We met in college, and Kayti’s roommate was a karaoke DJ at a local bar. Ben’s first attempts to woo Kayti began at Karaoke night. This single really explores how the small, silly moments can really reflect something much larger at play.”
We have added Karaoke to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in Desperate Electric’s wider discography including Still Not Giving You Up and Vacation!
