Delivering a flawless hybrid-pop experience, Fia Nyxx just released her sophomore album, Red Umbrella. The opening lyrics of the first track, Still Love You are the vulnerable “I can’t seem to find the words…” fused with keys and a pulsing beat, we are immediately immersed.
The rising LA-based genre-fusing, glam pop rockstar takes us on an ethereal and emotive journey soundscaped by exquisite production and passionate lyricism and brilliant story-telling. We love the vocal layers, details, textures and the message as Fia Nyxx sings, “I still love you, with every piece of my heart…”
The second track is called Don’t Shame Me and has a more fierce sexy and burlesque energy which features more minimalist production allowing Fia Nyxx‘s iconic vocals to take centre stage, as the self-realized artist that she is.
We are then met with an immersive synth experience on Gemini as Fia Nyxx‘s vocals are fused with elegant future-bass and percussive textures. She sings about the binaries of reality and how she “lost herself to a Gemini…”. The song also features a rap verse from Taylor Xo, rapping from the same perspective. AEIOU takes on on a more seductive R&B journey, showing the more sensual side of Fia Nyxx, and also has a music video with lots of sexual innuendos. The diversity of the record is really enjoyable.
The title track, Red Umbrella opens with rain and and and exquisite piano, as our protagonist paints a picture, “It barely rains underneath the Paris moon, so happy to be here…” The song shifts between futuristic hyperpop production and the original piano and we are totally hypnotized. It’s such a unique sonic experience and we have to stan. Fia Nyxx‘s vocals are mesmerizing as she sings, “underneath my Red Umbrella, is the only place that feels like home to me”. We really want her to get an Emily in Paris synch deal with this song!
My One Forever lends itself to a more sensual R&B energy as Fia Nyxx delivers the ultimate love song. The song also features a beautiful verse from rising artist, Jegasie. They sing in harmony, “all because we took, our time” lending itself to a sense of optimism for unity in a lonely world.
Track number seven is called Watch Over Me which opens with a vinyl frequency fused with a beautiful and enchanting introduction melody, before we are met with the pop clarity we are used to from the record so far. Fia Nyxx sings about angels, her connection with the universe and her hopes and expansion as a celestial being. We listen to a lot of music and we can definitely say that Fia Nyxx is one of the greatest vocalists of our generation.
Dangerous Dance is the epic final track on the record, lending itself to a Latin frequency with sensual vocals as she sings invitingly, “come here, follow me, you’re safe with me, don’t keep me waiting”. The guitar solos are like Santana and we are obsessed with the pulsing beat and build. Fia delivers a more theatrical and fierce vocal energy, once again showcasing her epic diversity as an artist. As if it couldn’t get better, the song continues to expand with a Spanish verse from Timo Nunez and additional vocals from Dvina. The 8 minute opus has us literally soaring in synch with the brilliant creator’s vision for this song and really confirms the hard work and tenacity that the rising artist has put into this body of work, and we really feel that she deserves the world.
Dangerous Dance has obviously been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
