Immersing us with enigmatic guitar, Elina Filice opens her latest release, Dont Let Me Fall, with the emotive lyrics “the air is getting heavier for you, I can’t seem to push through…”
Dont Let Me Fall (yes, you read that correctly, there is no apostrophe!), continues to expand, touching upon themes of self destruction. We love the astute lyrics, “the insides start to show itself on your skin…” before we are met with the powerful hook and title of the track as the guitar and instrumentation becomes multi-dimensional.
The layering of the vocals is exquisite and we love the way the guitar fuses with the narrative of the song, building us up and letting us down but not letting us fall.
“You’re the only one who listens, you’re the only one who cares, I swear I’ll jump if you don’t love me, promise I’ll die if you’re not here”, sings the artist in her vulnerability.
The evocative lyrics tell the story of the weight of loving someone who is depressed and in a downward spiral, and highlights the intense pressure of someone begging you to save them.
Speaking on the release, Elina says, “We’ve all been in the situation or know someone who’s been in a relationship or friendship where someone is relying on you for their stability. It’s incredibly scary being stuck in a dark tango with someone who you care for but are unable to help. What they threaten to do if you leave them leads to a toxic and painful cycle.”
The song was written and recorded by Elina in her home studio and co-produced by Viscose. We love Elina Filice‘s genre-bending sound and exquisite production and have added Dont Let Me Fall to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
