“Wait, don’t leave, like this” sings Carley Varley as she opens her latest single, Shore. With a bright pop vocal fused with intricate and hypnotizing ukulele instrumentation with percussive details, we are already in love with the latest release from the Bournemouth, UK-based rising artist.
Carley Varley tells a story of a relationship facing difficult and uncertain times and whether the couple is sure that they’ll make it through the storm to the “shore”.
Lyrical highlights include the telling “let’s give our hearts a minute”, and the intelligent and cerebral play on words, “we can fight through the storm, make our way to shore, but we may not be sure…”
Shore is full of vivid imagery and metaphors, fitting cohesively with the artwork, and is the forth song from the ‘Seasons‘ EP. The song gives us a Jack Johnson nostalgic vibe, but the recording quality and delivery is a clear match for artistry in 2022.
Speaking on the track, Carley Varley says, “There are many break up songs, I wanted to write about a couple working hard in their relationship and trying to make things work”.
Carley has been songwriting and playing the guitar and piano since the age of fourteen. In 2016 she was spotted busking in the quaint seaside town of Lymington on the south coast and was soon catapulted onto the stages at The Ritz and The Waldorf in London. Carley and her guitar have been regulars on the Dorset and Hampshire music scene ever since.
We have been immersing ourselves in Carley Varley‘s wider discography including Miss Me? and Honest Conflict and have added Shore to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
