Immersing us immediately with the lyrics of the opening track, Getting By, Littleuniverses sets the tone for her EP, Corners with grunge vocals and electric guitar that have us mesmerized.
Getting By continues to expand with an enigmatic rock frequency with a pulsing drum and exquisite percussion and harmonic textures fused with intricate vocal delivery from the rising artist from Montréal.
The song tells the story of moving on, as Littleuniverses sings, “life has its way, so farewell capitaine…”
The second track from the EP is called Isolation which has a more melancholic and vulnerable edge as our protagonist sings of self-destruction, an “obsession over what we cannot see” and themes of fear of oneself, self-destruction and dying alone.
Speaking on the EP, Littleuniverses says “The EP is quite personal as it digs into what I was feeling from March 2020 onward. Writing it was an interesting process. I tapped into my evolving emotional states as the days went by.”
We love the emotive energy of Isolation and are moved by the lyrical content and organic production and breakdown. We feel like Littleuniverses would be the perfect artist to perform at The Bronze in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Next up, we have Broken Dreams, an ethereal and transcendental song which showcases the artist’s more cerebral and breathier vocal tones, fused with ethereal textures that envelope us.
Finally, Before it Begins opens with strummed acoustic guitar, as Littleuniverses creates a cohesive journey with the EP, featuring French lyricism from our multi-lingual protagonist as she goes full circle and sings, “it’s over before it begins”.
Speaking further on the release, Littleuniverses says, “Corners is a sort of exploration while being isolated within the four corners of my apartment’s home studio for reasons of quarantine and creation.”
She continues with reference to the dimensionality and cover art, “Musically each song holds its unique atmosphere and is a representation of my state of mind when I wrote each of the songs. Corners’ cover looks the way that it does because it visually conveys the emotional states/personas of myself writing each song.”
We have been immersing ourselves in the EP and Littleuniverses wider discography, including the Ish Couture Remix of Those Things, and have added Getting By to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
