Setting the tone with enigmatic hybrid EDM meets pop-country production fused with tones of hip-hip and track, Lewis Hensley opens his latest single, a collaboration with Jay Vinchi, with the lyrics “Cuz I ain’t the one but I get it done, riding out West with the rising sun, hat in the sky, hand on my gun…”
The narrative of the song tells an exciting, hyper-reality story of Cocaine Cowboys, as they “hustle to make it”, being chased by sheriffs, set of dynamite, have their place raided and go on more immersive adventures.
Lewis Hensley just performed at SXSW and is a rising artist with expansion on his mind. This genre-fused delight that is Cocaine Cowboys has already received comparisons to the iconic Old Town Road, although the 2022 release is definitely laced with modernity. Lewis describes it as a “blend of pop, hip hop and country matched with rock’n’roll, sure to make your head knock”.
We feel the immense speed with this track, and the evocative story that goes with it which is a rare concept for a song in itself. Vocal delivery and production is flawless and we love how the pair bounce off each other throughout the journey of the track.
We have been immersing ourselves in Lewis Hensley‘s wider discography including Old Ghosts and Two Thirty and have added Cocaine Cowboys to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
