Setting the tone with an enigmatic guitar and deep textures, Ms. M|CHL opens her latest release New Heartache with introspective thoughts through the medium of ethereal vocals.
The narrative of the story tells the story of love lost as the Oklahoma born, LA-based sings, “new heartache, you’re my oldest friend, welcome back new heartache, I always knew we’d meet again…”
The song is fused with a voicemail from the protagonist’s lover as we enter the expanded second verse. We are met with exquisite harmonies in the second chorus that immerse us deeply in the emotions of the rising artist.
Speaking confidently on the track, Ms. M|CHL says ,”This is lead single for my second major release and the evolution of my sound is astounding! This song showcases a new sound that will no doubt take the states and abroad by storm.”
Ms. M|CHL‘s earliest influences are Prince, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. However, her musical journey eventually lead her to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails. Nowadays, she takes inspiration from Artists such as Active Child, Cautious Clay, Jensen McRae, and Jazmine Sullivan.
We feel the range in Ms. M|CHL‘s sound which transcends genre, fusing rock, R&B, trap and alternative.
New Heartache was recorded in the Trap Heals Ent. Studios in Los Angeles. The story of the song comes from Ms. M|CHL‘s experience of “meeting a person unlike anyone she had ever encountered before”. She was bombarded with the feeling of being blissfully overwhelmed, swept away, and immensely excited.
“If love at first sight exists, this was it”, says the genre bending artist. However, when it ended before it began, she felt an all too familiar feeling arrive. New Heartache is a story that most of us have suffered. Bringing forth the pathos of pain and loss but also the promise of love conquering all, in the end.
There is a sense of optimism in the fact that the artist is able to experience love energy so profoundly, but of course, tinged with sadness due to the inevitable heartache.
New Heartache has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist and we have been exploring Ms. M|CHL‘s wider discography including Pretend, Always You and Don’t Let Red.
