Setting the scene with bold plucked guitar, Romain Gutsy opens his latest release, If You See Her with the lyrics of the track, “If you see her, tell her I did not mean to be mean, tell her I remember she was a queen…”
The narrative of the song goes on to tell the story of regret from the perspective of the protagonist who want to relay a message to his muse. Romain Gutsy’s vocal is deep and sung with an enigmatic French accent which is full of raw emotion like some of the greats.
Percussion, wind instruments and keys expand the track, as the guitar changes and the emotive nature of the track grows.
If You See Her has an almost Leonard Cohen meets Bob Dylan meets Jacques Brel type energy, and is the first single that Romain Gutsy recorded under his name. It’s a hybrid of alt country and folk with a faithful and almost jazzy frequency.
Speaking on the track, Romain profoundly says, “the song talks about what you would like to be said to an old love that you did not see for quite a long time… Or maybe a love that passed away? While an easy listening song, it calls to the elemental feelings that each of us knows as we know who we are.”
Romain Gutsy is a French-born singer-songwriter and a musician who started his career in the 90s, singing and playing accordion with French bands such as Les Affamés, or guitar in the Celtic band Daffy Plays Mandola, as well as playing with more famous artists such as the Grammy award winner alt-Rock band, Soul Asylum, or American singer, Calvin Russel.
His album When Leonard Met Dolly is due for release on April 11 and we have added If You See Her to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
