`Setting the tone with intimate guitar and a stunning high vocal, Estella Dawn opens her new single, Buzzcut with the lyrics, “you better know that you’re lucky, you got your hands on me…”
It is clear from the outset that Estella knows exactly what she wants. The rising artist is a “constant observer” and has created a narrative with Buzzcut that details the concept of “chameleon daters”. These are people who “change their appearance, style, musical taste, and even eating habits to mirror each new romantic partner”.
With her confident lyricism, Estella questions, “I’m sparking like a glacier, can you match that energy?” We love the emotive and diverse vocal range that Estella delivers on the track, and the guitar solo is exquisite. Her harmonies towards the end of the song textured over the main lyrics, “I’ll mould you into what I like…” are hypnotizing!
The playful nuances in the production elevate the chorus as Estella sings the hook, “buzzcut rebel, I’m a bad romance”.
Speaking on the track’s concept of “chameleon daters”, Estella says, “I think as a women, we tend to do this more than men – we are conditioned to believe we have to shrink, re-adjust and mold ourselves to satiate the male gaze.”
“I wanted to flip that narrative on its head with Buzzcut. This song is about holding your shape when embarking on a new relationship, an encouragement to “stay true to your own authentic flare”.
