Setting the tone with elegant and emotive piano, Elizabeth Luka opens her new song Why Won’t You with luscious vocals singing, “this time, I can’t decide if I should leave or stay, always been on my side now you’re pushing me away…”
We are gripped, as Elizabeth continues, “you try to save me when I don’t ask for help, cos you don’t wanna talk, you don’t wanna think, think of this…”
The energy that we receive is full of genuine emotion and reminiscent of iconic ballads from the 90s, as the song continues to build with risers and percussion transporting us in fusion with the emerging artist’s eloquent vocal.
Speaking on the track, Elizabeth says, “Although from the first look Why Won’t You seems to be another love song, it is a song about being discriminated against by the government’s decisions limiting people’s freedom, rights and free will.”
The hook, “why won’t you see us, why won’t you hear us” is a plea to be heard. She says, “When I recorded this song, I sang about freedom for the people, how governments oppress our human rights and free choice. But with the latest ongoings in Ukraine I believe my own pain is nothing comparing to what Ukraine people are suffering because of Russian invasion”.
Elizabeth Luka is 17 years old, but delivers great wisdom and maturity in her voice. Why Won’t You is Elizabeth’s debut single and we have added it to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
