Setting the tone with polished, piercing and intricate guitar, Ruto‘s immersive and thought-provoking single, No Repeats opens with the lyrics, “another night another dime for two, passing smoke to catch a smile from you”.
Southcentral LA native, Ruto, is dedicated to “connecting the diverse styles of LA into an ambient and eclectic sound.” We love the frequency that Ruto is sharing with us, and the introspective lyrics that continue, “How am I supposed to express myself to you, when I show you how I love you want something new, every song, every gift each not the same, I hold myself till the end, no repeats, no games.”
Speaking on the themes of the track, Ruto says, “This song was made from the frustration of being in love with someone with anxiety and depression. Wanting to give them everything you have but knowing that their illness would cause issues beyond both your control. Ultimately it’s a love song about being there for someone while having this outside force pushing you to adapt just to be with someone you care deeply for.”
The multi-disciplinary recording artist sings, “Tell me how to love, tell me how to love you” in an almost mantra-esque way to really unearth the answer that they seek.
Being self-taught from an early age, Ruto found their voice in blending the melodies and rhythms of jazz, punk, and soul into chill and dynamic grooves. This has come to life across the artist’s recent releases including Si Lo Sientes, and Every Step.
When not on stage, Ruto is studying his craft always grinding forward to hone his sounds and appreciation for the music that inspire him to create.
They push forward with a DIY mentality, looking to produce art with aspiring artists all working to foster a community of self-sufficiency and collaboration.
We are excited by their sound and energy and have been immersing ourselves in their wider discography. No Repeats is also featured on our New Music Spotlight playlist!
