Setting the scene with elegant arpeggiated guitar, Ollie Twohill delivers empowering vocals on his new single, Silk Dress, taking us on a narrative-driven journey detailing the come up story of a pop star.
Speaking on the creation of the track, Ollie Twohill says, “Silk Dress was inspired by my love of belting out Avril Lavigne‘s “Skater Boy” on Singstar as a 5-year-old.”
“It tells the story of a young musician who follows her dream in working and playing hard in pursuit of cracking it in the charts. Could apply to any life pursuit.”
We love the nod to Avril Lavigne, and can feel that energy come through in the drums and guitars, as well as Ollie’s vocals. Silk Dress follows a similar theme from his recent single release, Boots, about “pursuing your dreams with gusto and living in the present and a life with no regrets.”
Ollie’s definitive brand of empowerment through this lens of pop-rock is tangible on his records and we are really inspired by the rising artist who has been playing professionally for the past five years at pubs, venues and small festivals off the back of several years of street busking.
A come up story parallel, if you might. When asked to cite his influences, Ollie mentions John Butler, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Blink 182, Jet, Neck Deep and Avril Lavigne.
Silk Dress was recorded on the tourist strip of the sunny Gold Coast Queensland Australia with Ollie’s team which consists of Dylan J Smith (producer) and session musicians who are siblings Blair Hamilton (drums) and Lawson Hamilton (bass). The single was mastered by acclaimed US industry heavyweight Mike Kalajian of Rogue Planet Mastering in New York.
When asked about his team, Ollie says in a wholesome way, “They are all down to earth, talented and contribute in their own special way to these recordings. I’m grateful for all their contributions.”
Silk Dress is featured on our New Music Spotlight playlist and we have been immersing ourselves in Ollie Twohill‘s wider discography including Boots, Stone Cold Killer and Mr Nightowl.
