STAND-IN takes toxic relationship drama to the next level on, Not Yours

Opening with a sonic ident that says, “69 420” the tone of STAND-IN‘s new single, Not Yours is set. The artist then goes on to sing, “I bet anything that you’re talking sh*t about, got my photo on the wall and your friends all taking turns throwing darts at me…” giving us some context on the incoming narrative of the track.

Speaking on the theme of the song, STAND IN says Not Yours is “a dramatization of every crazy thing you thought about doing after a rough break up” – from the lyrics, this includes darts, voodoo dolls, punching walls, fucking each others’ friends, toxic relationship traits and poetic interpretations of each of the protagonist’s feelings.

Not Yours is written and produced by STAND-IN and mastered by GRAMMY-nominated engineer, Michelle Mancini. We love the refined, minimalist production and layered vocals.

STAND-IN (aka Anthony Westlake), a multi-faceted artist, began his career as a professional dancer. He taught himself to produce music while dancing on P!NK’s Beautiful Trauma World Tour. A rough patch with his love for dance was quickly followed by a newfound love for writing and producing music.

In order to research and create Not Yours, STAND IN said, “I called a few of my closest friends to ask about the craziest things they’ve either done or thought about doing while acting out after a relationship ended. Some were a little too shocking to make the cut, but that string of phone calls will be burned into my memory for longer than I’d like. The song ended up as a satirical take on everything I wish would happen post-break up in an effort to make the situation feel a bit more cinematic. When in reality, all I’ve ever done in the past is be sad.”

We can expect a single a month from STAND-IN, and we have featured Not Yours, by the rising artist on our New Music Spotlight playlist.
