`Accompanied by a hypnotising black and white visual, rising artist Austel has released a cinematic piano and strings cover of the iconic Horses in My Dreams, originally by PJ Harvey.
Austel is a London-based, Devon-born artist and producer, also known as Annie Rew Shaw, and this moody cover of Horses in My Dreams marks her first release since 2020.
Featuring her standout haunting vocals fused with an upright piano, Austel’s version is rich with layers and textures with the vocals in cohesive harmony with the cello.
Introducing the single, Austel says: ‘For me, Horses In My Dreams is a song about self-empowerment, longing for more and deciding you have to be the one to go and get it… something I’ve definitely resonated with over the past couple of years. There’s also something about seeing the beauty in the everyday. I made a very homegrown music video from things I filmed while going for walks during the UK lockdowns. Walking around the same place so often made me appreciate my surroundings a lot more, and the stillness forced me to really sit with everything I was thinking.”
After a small hiatus (taking time to focus on her band Dust In The Sunlight and study a masters in music production), Austel recently announced her upcoming album ‘Feathers’ – a collection of intimate, piano-based versions of her EPs ‘Unfold’ and ‘Cold Love’ – due for release on 1st April 2022.
We have been immersing ourselves in Austel’s sound and universe and understand why Horses in My Dreams was chosen as the perfect cover and buzz single to announce the artist’s new era. You can find Horses In My Dreams on our New Music Spotlight playlist too!
