The narrative of the song is cute, upbeat and flirtatious. Speaking on the story, Jesse says Queen of Spades is about “meeting that special someone, that special someone that takes you on a wondrous journey of feelings and emotions and no matter what, when you fall asleep at night you meet up in thy dreams.”
We love the instrumentation, giving pop-punk rock vibes, Jesse cites Sublime, Rancid, 311, Dirty Heads, Lily Allen, Green Day, Nirvana, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Johnny Cash and Johnny Thunders as some of his influences and we can feel that coming through on the record for sure!
The song is a visual adventure and has a lyric video to accompany. We love the textured vocals and melodies, the middle-8 shifts frequency and elevates a cohesive juxtaposition and emotion that dimensionalizes the song. He sings, “my sheets smell like your perfume” bringing to life the connection with his Queen of Spades before delivering a pop-punk rap verse where he sings, “when you fall asleep tonight, ill met you in your dreams.”
