A mild and almost a haunting frequency amidst the background noise of perhaps tumbleweed floating into outer space, followed by refined electric guitar is how alternative post punk pop band, SALT opens their latest release, Tumbleweed.
“In my mind, I’ll give it to you”, sings vocalist Sharon Woods fiercely, before the narrative of the track kicks in as the band looks back to the hedonistic days.
Speaking on the track, the Edinburgh based SALT say that they are, “looking back to the hedonistic days when folk had too good a time and felt on top of the world, but the routine of it all becomes dull like a bad joke…”
“Tumbleweed rolling through our life…”
Some have likened SALT to Nick Cave meets the Fall meets the Pixies, but we also hear elements of Hole, Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage, which we adore.
Grunge guitars, sexy and subversive bass and exhilarating drums cohesively align with Sharon’s emotional and wildly enticing vocal.
SALT are a four-piece alternative band based in Edinburgh, Scotland who are in fact a family, with Sharon Woods on vocals, her husband Robin Woods on guitar, Simon Kettles (uncle) on bass and James King (son) on drums. We love how they work together so cohesively, it makes sense(!) and are fully converted to stan.
We love so many songs from SALT including Suffocate and Boxcar, which you can stream on all platforms, and on our New Music Spotlight playlist.
