Setting the tone with a polished indie-pop meets neo-soul frequency, Torontos-based artist Stephen James Orr has teamed up with Eunice Keitan on a new single, Someone Real.
Emotive and introspective, the narrative of the song touches upon loneliness, community, genuine connection and individualism. Originally written by Stephen and then evolved with Eunice, the duo created the song after meeting at a virtual live music series that Stephen was curating.
Guitar loops on Someone Real are mesmerizing and the vocal layering and texturing is vibrant and laid on thick with the artist joking, “now in order to pull it off live we just need 50 Eunice Keitans (or a choir) to make it happen!”
The duo was brought together by their shared love for neo-soul, and they both vibe so well on the song and in the video, which is a trippy adventure with quirky edits.
Reminiscing on the collaboration process, Eunice said, “I’ve always been a songwriter that hashed out ideas on my own, in my room, alone. But collaborating with Stephen was a different way to write and a breath of fresh air. It encouraged me to explore a different process musically and lyrically and to step out of my own style, which I think is essential for my growth as an artist.”
You can stream both artists on all streaming platforms, and Someone Real is also featured in our New Music Spotlight playlist.
