Sometimes the simplicity of love energy can only be conveyed in the most straightforward of ways, and I Found You, the latest offering form Church Mice, does exactly this.
The song delightfully brings to life a love story and finding that sense of comfort and connection with someone special. It is the only love song in the repertoire of the band, but also the lead track from their record, Flying.
Discussing the song, the band says it is, “Intentionally delicate, simple and sweet. A slight departure from our standard sound, but true love is worth making exceptions.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Christian Carver Thompson is the songwriter and vocalist, who also plays the guitar, Bill Solomonson plays guitar and contributes vocals, Jason Gittinger is the band’s drummer, Matt Walsh plays bass, whilst Rob Dawson contributes keyboards, guitar and drums.
When asked about the band’s influences, they cite Wilco, Pink Floyd, STP, U2, Queen, Gomez, Radiohead, Coldplay, Jane’s Addiction, Morphine, Bowie and Kings of Leon.
However, it was the death of Chris Cornell and the band’s attendance at the final Soundgarden concert in Detroit that really lit a fire in Christian to fully pursue music.
When discussing the album, the band informs us that the main theme is simply the title of the record, which is “Flying”, they say, “sometimes we just want to fly away from our troubles, but then, when we learn to stand firm, we can use that same energy to lean into the wind and take off”.
