Setting the tone with a refined twanging guitar, which the band describes as a “bong”, alongside luxurious double drums, the latest release from groan room, titled greasy thumbs opens with the lyrics, “we turn the car around, found some common ground for the start”.
Narrative driven, the rising Manchester band takes us on a visual and emotive journey documenting a human connection, assuring us and their muse that they give “a thousand fucks what you think, I thought you ought to know”.
It’s a story of retribution, re-connection but extremely humble with the visual universe created by the band.
greasy thumbs marks the sixth studio release from groan room which was recorded and produced at Blueprint Studios in Salford. We are obsessed with the heavy electric guitar, juxtaposed with the refined “bong”/ luscious hand picked guitar.
The band describe their sound as “indie-rock, with a slacker-y splash”, which totally makes sense having explored their wider discography!
Speaking on the release, groan room confirm that, “it goes on to emulate the moans and squeals of [our] early releases, and echoes [our] characteristic loud/quiet contrasts. Fuzzy guitars swell under pounding drums, as the song gradually culminates in a cathartic climax”.
They add that, “greasy thumbs is an unusually happy song for us, which made it a bit of a bugger to write. It contemplates the simplicity of a happy relationship and of companionship.”
