William Sanford shows his comedic prowess on subversive new single, Do The Buttcrack

Setting the tone with whirring synths and a pulsing beat akin to being at Berghain, William Sanford opens his new song with the specific and rebellious lyrics, “Do The Buttcrack, Do The Buttcrack, right now”.

The song is emotive from the get go, and actually reminds us a bit of Lady Gaga’s song Donatella, but almost with a contrarian philosophy. Feeling alienated from social media trends, the North West Indiana / Chicago-based artist William Sanford has chosen activism, body positivity and taking ownership of his physicality in this unique and memorable track.

Speaking on his activism, Sanford says, “When you’re old, overweight, and jaded, you begin to find that the only thing that can compete with the onslaught of dances, trends, floofs, and other nonsense is the fact that you’re belts tend to fail, you’re pants don’t stay up, and people find old, hairy butts to be funny.”

It’s genius and subversive and have added Do The Buttcrack to our New Music Spotlight playlist and you can immerse yourself further in William’s discography below, which also includes his other songs with iconic titles including, Will Fight and Defeat These Bulbous Spheres with Their Tiny Little Crowns.

William is an eclectic, eccentric, and electronic musician who draws influence from a variety sources that include Downtempo, IDM, Ambient, Soundtrack, New Age, Video Games, Art Rock and Prog. William came up from working class roots and still exists there, and yet, William’s music both transcends and embraces this history for better or worse.

At times like an aging philosopher, at other’s belligerent and dumb. Either way, one thing William is not… is boring.
