Shaggy Palms debates vengeance on psychedelic, Revenge

Delivering a refined alt-rock energy akin to The Cure meets Blood Orange, we are immediately hooked by New England-based rising artist, Shaggy Palm‘s latest offering, Revenge.

The textured vocals intertwined with exquisite guitar performance and production from Neil Popkin (who also plays drums on the track), Revenge is a psychedelic ode to leaning into the idea of vengeance and how self-indulgent it can be.

Lyricism is introspective and expressive, with memorable moments including the hooks, “give it to your enemies as a white flag” and the playful “it’s a punk rock party, getting naughty, you don’t event wanna know”.

Speaking on the creation of the track, Shaggy Palms says, “I broke my hand in November 2021, it was a perfect opportunity to tie in some personal strife as a vibe in the cocktail of Revenge.”

Genre influences for the artist include rock, pop, hip hop, electronic and funk, and artist influences include TV on the Radio, Nirvana, James Brown, early Incubus and Blood Orange. We can definitely feel the artist influences come through on the production style and drum patterns, and especially love the Dev Hynes, Blood Orange nod.

Shaggy Palms describes himself as wrestling with delinquent and a weirdo, and all we can say is (sigh of relief) that we wouldn’t want it any other way!

SO which will it be, the high road or instant gratification?
