Opening with a super dimensional riser that is intriguing from the moment the song begins, followed by panning future bass which go on to introduce the drums, Adam Brookes‘ 22.2.2022(!) release, Different Times is a luxurious futuristic indie pop experience.
Lyrical highlights following the ambient and rinsed guitar intro include the introspective “the days of our lives are passing by“, “you can never turn back time“, “i feel it closing in, it’s happening again“, “i feel different times“, “one day you’re lost the next you’re born again“. Adam’s lyricism touches on the change within society, and takes us on a journey of emotion reflecting on shifts happening in the artist’s reality.
We love the spacey middle-8 with ripples of future bass and a guitar solo! The deconstruction and breakdown of the song is also really refined with a futuristic wailing guitar reminiscent of the 80s, giving Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, The Rolling Stones, The Clash kinda vibe which are also cited as his influences.
Adam Brookes’ new solo single DIFFERENT TIMES brings a more minimal, refined feel than we’ve heard from the Dangermaker’s singer-songwriter before.
The song also comes with a virtual reality, psychedelic music video featuring an extended version of the track. The visual feels like an awesome acid trip to Mars or ancient Earth with sand dunes, caves and mountains, but also with the artist dressed in a hybrid horse / unicorn costume delivering a comedic element.
Lyrically reflecting on changing times and whether or not he has something to lose now, he finds himself questioning and grappling with what exactly that might be these days.
Initial experiments with electronic production recently led to commissioned compositions for The North Face and Brookes realized that certain life-long musical influences had previously been neglected. Rather than force-fitting those ideas into an existing box, his new project is left free to land where it may, often fusing electronic and hip-hop influences just as much as rock, pop, dance or R&B.
Brookes has appeared at Bottlerock Napa and Live 105’s BFD Music Festivals among others like SXSW & CMJ nationally, and his music heard on radio, television & film, ahead of his 2022 solo LP release.
