Opening with the bold, “I know who I am, don’t try to hype me“, it is clear that TWAM, also known as Stephen Sifflard, knows who he is. The 20-year-old singer and drummer from Boston has almost one and a half million TikTok likes, the face and vibe of a Saint Laurent model and and is a self-aware voice for the future.
Combining elements of pop, alternative, soul and melodic rap, whilst maintaining a cohesive sound, TWAM’s debut “Outta Time” features self aware lyricism including “just wanna be what I’m supposed to, but I’m running outta time to do what I want to” and reflections on asking God what they’re supposed to do, but the wisdom of the track unveils the deeper we go.
Speaking on the track and the message behind it, Twam says “Outta Time is an anthem for those that are struggling to reach their dreams and sense time is running out as they get older. The music business is tough and by the time your 25 if you haven’t made it, it’s almost like it’s not going to happen. When I say “Maybe I can, restart the clock“, I’m trying to convey to not give up on your dreams and keep moving forward.”
We definitely endorse this message. It’s never too late to be your authentic self.
The vocal production on Outta Time gives Kanye and Frank Ocean vibes which makes sense, considering Sifflard cites “The Weekend, Nirvana, Steve Lacy and Frank Ocean” as inspirations.
Foremost a drummer, Twam’s rhythmic grooves are the foundation of his instrumentals, which he mostly crafts himself. We love the break downs and glitched moments before a strings solo and some less affected vocals from Sifflard, really demonstrating his strengths as a vocalist.
Stephen Sifflard is also the drummer and co-lead singer for Boston rock band “Roll Over White”. Their debut 5-song EP, recorded with award-winning producer Sean McLaughlin at 37’ Productions, dropped in May 2019 and was very well received with over 350,000+ streams on Spotify worldwide. This secured them nominations for best new rock act with Limelight and the New England Music Awards. Roll Over White has recently released two songs off their upcoming Album (Dolly and My Regards) on all platforms. The full album is set for release in March 2022.
We’re excited to hear more from the rising alternative genre-fusing artist, you can follow Twam on TikTok and Instagram as well.
