Brainchild of creative Bethan Dadson, HOEZINE is a zine and platform that primarily focuses on empowerment. What started as an online entity, HOEZINE has now expanded into print with their stunning debut issue and cover featuring Leah Singh!
HOEZINE aims to uplift and inspire their peers, themselves and the next creative generation to design the life they want to live – to be happy, comfortable and creative. As a modus operandi, HOEZINE stands by those who are vulnerable and impacted by the injustices ingrained in society and they fight for equal opportunities for all – which is definitely why we vibe and wanted to amplify the zine.
The debut issue (which has now sold out!) features an iconic red cover with model Leah Singh pulling down her bottom lip in a subversive act of rebellions showcasing a heart finger tattoo and diamond studs on her teeth. The cover is shot by Ella Niles on 35 mm film – we love a retro moment. The contents of the issue span fashion, art, beauty, music, words and more.
The features include 10 Black Businesses To Support in 2021, visual editorials, illustrations by Ayonti Maureen aka Proartcrastinator – a Bangladeshi artist based in Montreal and fashion photography by Mathushaa Sagthidas featuring Ryan Lanji and more desi talent. There is also a great music spotlight on Safiyyah and RADA and a through provoking feature by Toni Murphy titled Black Women Need To Cum Too! We love the profile on artist Chel Jones plus all the additional fashion and beauty features.
