Michelle O Faith inspires on whimsical and provoking “Black Lolita”

British alternative pop sensation and versatile powerhouse vocalist Michelle O Faith, who is supported by MOBO, just released the song and video for Black Lolita. A super thought provoking journey through the mind and heart of a brilliant artist who has experienced a turbulent relationships with the patriarchal music machine, the release will be part of Lagoon Volume II (you can stream Lagoon Volume I now).

Speaking on the song, Michelle says that it addresses “the fetishisation of young black women, specifically, by older white men in the industry”. The video opens with a man tattooed with the face of Michelle O Faith on his back, some killer drone shots and then opens to the Black Lolita herself as a giant in a dollhouse – pretty awesome! Subsequent shots see the eccentric journey of O Faith in a classic car driving through the countryside connected with nature on a journey to freedom.

In love with the way Michelle traverses the operatic pop identity whilst addressing real issues and visual splendour consistent with her whole videography.

Michelle O Faith also just performed the single at the Goodluck Hope amenities launch in London on a swimming pool stage under the full Pisces moon – fitting. It’s inspiring to see a celestial artist like Michelle O Faith receiving the acclaim that she deserves. Just today, Skunk Anansie legend Skin shared Black Lolita via her Instagram too! Beautiful.
