It is now easier than ever to navigate a foreign city as as a vegan. The sentiment around animal cruelty has fast evolved in Europe, coupled with the readily available information about the health and environmental benefits of a plant-based lifestyle/ Grateful every day for our collective evolution.
We spent the last five nights in Athens and the vegan offering was incredible, so wanted to highlight the places we went to and hopefully the next time you visit Athens you will have the chance to enjoy these awesome and conscious establishments!
Mother Vegan Cafe Bistro
Launched just this year, Mother is an artistic vegan bistro located in central Athens a 20 minute walk from the Acropolis. They serve exquisite savoury pies, cakes and treats plus a vegan cheese platter and homemade finer lemonade which is delicious. The energy of the space is amazing and chatting to one of the founders who can be described as a spiritual vegan, their intentions for our planet and collective and very wholesome. Definitely a vegan place in Athens to try out!

Winners Vegan
If you’re in the mood for a high end international cuisine with stunning decor look no further than Winners Vegan – based just a few minutes from the Acropolis in a really cute neighbourhood where there are some ayurvedic spots and hotels. At Winners, they serve bio/organic/healthy, freshly made-in-house food along with drinks, bio natural wines and fresh organic juices and smoothies. They also have speciality rainbow rolls, Acai bowls, salads, burgers and more. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, chatty and full of life. The spot was just opened before lockdown and definitely worth a visit if you get the chance!
Their Instagram is packed full of visually appealing dishes covering the full spectrum of the rainbow too!
Lime Bistro
Based in the arts district of Athens, Lime Bistro is a vegan restaurant emphasizing macrobiotic alkaline diets. Obsessed. They use equipment such as sous vide, cold pressed juicer, dehydrator, yogurt machine to make yogurt from nuts, and a germinater to grow sprouts. They have scallops made of mushrooms and even a mushroom style kebab dish, it feels super healthy and ayurvedic and energising! All products are organic and made from scratch. They even hosts seminars about nutrition, ecology, and veganism. We had to stan. Even their bathroom air freshener smells of cinnamon!

Veganaki
Super relaxed, albeit on a main road, Veganaki offers a vegan twist on the traditional Greek cuisine. They serve vegan food and fairtrade coffee all day with several plant based milk options. Every day the dishes are different with regular specials, falafel wraps, moussaka, pasta, vegan omelette, rovitsa (mung beans), vegetable burgers, soups, wraps, sandwiches, salads, fresh juices, cakes, and desserts. A full offering and they also have traditional Greek alcohol on the menu. Definitely one for those wanting that authentic Greek vibe but with a conscience.

Peas
Another 2020 opening was Peas, again located just a short walk from the Acropolis in Koukaki, this raw vegan haven has a lot of fresh offerings operating under the motto “Give Peas a Chance”. Peas serves a range of wraps, burgers, warm food, salads, cakes, desserts and breakfast specials, all made from scratch in-house and live in front of you. Raw, gluten and sugar free options available as well as fresh juices, smoothies, soft drinks and organic fair trade coffee. They can be tight on space for sitting at busy times but also still worth a take away and at a really good value! I personally loved the raw courgette salad – super fresh and energising!
