You know when you meet someone and you realise that they are a literal angel, that’s what it is like meeting Bad W0lfy. We go back about six years now but the conscious pop princess’ most recent release of Kill It With Love is proof in point that artist Rochella Danishei’s vibration is something we can experience long into the future.
I am always thinking about how much space there will be for unconscious songs in the future; it always seems to go back to the fact that uniqueness, depth, intricacy, character and layers are always what makes a song timeless to me and I think that Bad W0lfy and producer and innovator Ray Reich have done just that with Kill It With Love. I first heard the track in LA a few months ago and then again when it was just released and it’s been on loop alongside Dopamine for a minute now! The vocal layering, unique structure and sonic depth of field are all so refined. It’s fully transportative and worthy of your Repeat Infinity button.
Kill It With Love sounds like nothing you have experienced in euphoric pop before, you can’t pin point references because as with any genuine art, it is original. It’s also a really emotive and moving piece of lyrical work with references to energy, time, mental health, music in its truest form and the idea of the body of work/unvierse literally moving you.
Bad W0lfy and director Sleepy Puppies bring this to life in the minimalist performance dance video for the track. The one take showcases Ro’s expressive nature, raw emotion and choreography skill laced with yogic movements, which are so important for humanity at this time, so thanks for bringing it to the spotlight here with choreographer Keva Walker. It fits the emotive lyrical hook of “I don’t move to the beat if the beat don’t move me” which speaks volumes about the artist’s relationship with the planet and in turn all of ours.
According to Bad W0lfy, “Kill It With Love is about looking inwards for the answers. We can never have world peace until we stop battling ourselves. It’s about killing the illusion of separateness and “the other” through compassion and love, and realizing our potential. All people want to be heard and seen. This song is about finding within ourselves, what makes us angry about others, our own shadow, and healing it. Through vulnerability, self-reflection and healing, we can learn to accept everyone, and through acceptance, we can transform our world.”
