One of the most relaxing experience you can have is going out into the woods, tent in hand and spending a few days in the wilderness alone or with someone you like. Camping is a hugely popular way to travel and is one which most people will experience at least once in their lives and the beauty of camping is that you can scale it up or down depending on how raw you want the experience to be.
If you are thinking of taking to the woods this spring and spending time underneath the stars, here are some of the reasons why camping is a great way to escape.
Connecting With Gaia
The beauty of camping is that it take us far away from the world we are used to. So many of us are used to waking up at the crack of dawn, jumping in the car and then being stuck in rush hour traffic in the middle of the city. Camping takes us away from the stress, the people and the traffic of daily life. We are able to wake up in the middle of nowhere with no deadlines, no restrictions and no sounds. It is the perfect place to go if you are feeling stressed out and need some time to think about your life, meditate etc.
There’s no need to put on a three piece suit to impress the universe, you can wear outdoor clothing for men by Schoffel, trainers and be yourself. There are no expectations from you while you are out in the sticks, you are able to totally be yourself and do the things which make you happy.
You’ll Find New Skills
If you have lived in an urban setting for your entire life, the thought of being able to survive in the sticks might terrify you. However, if you have never been out there before how do you know that you’ll fail? A lot of the time when people go camping they realise things about themselves and discover new skills that they never knew they had. You might find that cooking on a fire is the way you cook best, or chopping up wood for the fire is your forte, it’ll be fun to find out what you are good at.
You’ll Appreciate Nature
In the last few decades we have seen a huge decline in the amount of green space around cities. It is a crying shame and it means that many people go through their lives without connecting with nature in a profound way. Children grow up without seeing many of the birds and other wildlife which were abundant in our youth. A great way to get ourselves and the kids involved in nature is to go out into the wild and take a wildlife book in hand. When you see birds the kids and you can take a look at see what species you’ve seen. You will notice that you appreciate nature much more than you ever did before.
You Can Play With Fire
Let’s be honest, we all like the concept and idea of fire (when used responsibly). The idea of being able to cook over an open and hypnotising flame and light a fire from sticks is a huge draw for many camp goers. You can roast marshmallows, make dinner and feel satisfied that you have been able to cook glorious food using only a flame. Plus it’s ideal for mediation.
