Most of you will know that America and I have a long standing relationship with almost 4-6 trips a year. With that said, the US is a huge country and so it’s pretty hard trying to narrow down such a wide variety of cities into a shortlist. So here are five options that reveal everything from big city glamour, casino decadence, and plenty of beach-based fun to give a good overview of what this amazing nation offers.
New York
The Big Apple is one of the world’s most visited cities and a clear personal favourite of mine (have a look at these previous New York posts). And for good reason, as whether you’re into the breathtaking skyscrapers of Manhattan or the hipster culture of Brooklyn, there’s pretty much something for everyone. New York is truly a city that never sleeps, with the downtown areas of Manhattan being packed with buzzing bars and a vibrant coffee culture, and if you do need to take some time out, then head to the idyllic Central Park for some well-earned peace and quiet!
Los Angeles
Down on the West Coast (they got a sayin’), Los Angeles offers a very different take on the American dream with the movie-star thrills of Hollywood Boulevard being just a small part of this sprawling city. Beach bums should head to the boardwalks of Santa Monica and Venice, whilst anybody seeking a taste of alternative LA living should explore the cool neighbourhoods of Silverlake, Echo Park and Los Feliz. Make sure to follow my Instagram Diaries for a lot of LA posts!
Las Vegas
Long-considered the party capital of the world, Las Vegas is a neon blast of casino and cabaret culture that shows that Americans really know how to have fun. And even if you don’t fancy stepping inside the hallowed arches of famous casino hotel resorts like the Bellagio and the Venetian, then there’s always the online alternative at Betway who can even supply you with your own online blackjack dealer for that ultimate Vegas experience. The only time I made it over to Vegas was in 2013 and I would go back in a heartbeat!
Denver
No city summons up the mythical American cowboy legend as much as the capital of Colorado, Denver. With its heart clearly in the Old West era, Denver has still managed to change with the times and is well on its way to becoming the nation’s coolest city. And with just a short drive to enjoy the amazing ski slopes of the Rocky Mountains, it’s a must for any outdoors enthusiast.
San Francisco
And finally, there are few more heart-stopping moments than driving across the Golden Gate Bridge to see the city of San Francisco before you. With its notoriously hilly streets, its vibrant bar scene and artsy vibe, it’s got a more European flavour than many American cities. And with many of the world’s tech elite being based in the nearby Silicon Valley, you can also thank San Francisco for giving you access to those online blackjack dealers and most of the internet!
