If you’ve been following my Instagram and Snapchat this week, you might have noticed that I took the first opportunity that I could to escape the London winter blues and have solidly set down in the wonderful Rio de Janeiro. My original intention was to go in December but due to the passing of my grandfather and quite as serious work load in January (which I cannot wait to show you the results of next week!), this was the first chance I had to explore the wonderful city of Rio.
I’ve been staying in Ipanema, but the Copacabana end just by Posto 8 and Arpoador beach. It’s a solo and personal trip, so I don’t have the luxury of a photographer with me at all times, and due to the nature of crime rates in Rio, it isn’t always advisable to be waiving around a camera like a tourist. Having said that, my inner explorer couldn’t resist documenting my experiences and the city somewhat, so here are some highlights that I wanted to share with you guys including the mind blowing architecture of the Museum of Tomorrow/Museu do Amanhã, the beaches taken with a Herb Ritts lens, because duh, it’s me and the cameo appearance of a chopper across Ipanema beach every five minutes which makes you feel like you are living and breathing in the video for Lana Del Rey’s High By The Beach.
I’d also like to express a huge thank you to my new friend Oquitavio Neto who was introduced to me by my friend Taro. Oquitavio took me on a tour of the city yesterday from very much a local inhabitant’s perspective, and the end of the day highlight was undoubtedly the
Kilariô Afro Baile + Festa Mukambo party in downtown which was possibly the most authentic Rio experience I could have imagined. Thank you Oquitavio!
