Detail and charm are paramount in the boutique hotel business – and yes, they can often be hit and miss. My experience this weekend at Hôtel Jules & Jim– named after Truffaut’s film of the same name – was unparalleled. As far as independently run hotels go, the level of curation from the incredibly welcoming hand-picked staff through to the fact that the continental breakfast runs until 1pm on weekends (hello, perfection!), the exquisite taste in Molton Brown bath soaps and art found all over the hotel (currently an exhibition by Jean Robert Franco.
What’s interesting about the architecture of the building is that it holds a sense of privacy at the same time as communal intimacy. The guests are from varied backgrounds and cultures, yet the bar found at the back of the hotel is very much a local Parisian haunt with some of the best dressed and best looking people in the city. As for the rooms, they have this incredible cocoon feel courtesy of the use of HI-MACS to create curved white walls with dark chestnut and stone details for sink and furnishings – for a city centre hotel located mere minutes from Le Marais it is really important to feel a sense of uniqueness and wonderment when in a smaller space than say a beach side resort or larger hotel, Jules et Jim does exactly this.
