Last week, I had the honour of staying for three nights at Grecotel’s Cape Sounio Luxury Resort to experience the Drops of Breath underwater performance in the Aegean Sea. You can read more about that on my Huffington Post column, here.
Based near Athens, Cape Sounio boasts some of the most incredible and historic views known to man and certainly for fiends of Greek Mythology as the beach overlooks the breathtaking Temple of Poseidon -have a look at my visual diary. However, I wanted to take a moment to truly highlight three of the resort’s most unique offerings.
First and foremost, the spa. With an incredible array of treatments available, the spa is based above the resort, secluded within the trees with three private pools to relax in before and after your treatments. Every treatment is inspired by different cultural elements from the area- the one that I experienced was the Elixir of Life – restoring body energy, balancing body aura, revitalizing and improves skin firmness which also harnesses nature’s most luxurious element – gold – leaving the body shimmering for at least 24 hours afterwards.
A second highlight was the cuisine – the offering is strong from buffet breakfasts and dinner to beach side restaurants and bespoke and unique menus including the Aphrodisiac menu which caters to igniting a more aroused post meal effect – something that fits really well with the resort, particularly as it is an ideal space for honeymooners and couples. You can explore more about the fine dining offering at Cape Sounio here.
Finally, and as I mentioned above, the views – particularly the beach front experience provides the sentiment of being in a Bond film with crystal white sand and turquoise shallows overlooking the Temple of Poseidon. The ideal location for beach lovers with a fondness for sunsets. If a private bungalow wasn’t enough, the beach allows a tranquil space to engage with other guests in a very non intrusive manner. There is a snorkelling offering and also the culinary delights of the beachside Aegean grill.
All in all – a wonderful experience and a destination worth exploring! Flights with Aegean Airways, London to Athens from £54. Rooms at Grecotel Cape Sounio starting from £133. Also enjoy a preview video for Drops of Breath below.
