Greek mythology has always fascinated me, from learning about Theseus at school to enjoying the resurgence of the culture through Hollywood action films such as 300 and Hercules. So when I was invited to spend three days at the beautiful Cape Sounio Luxury Resort by Grecotel in Athens overlooking the Temple of Poseidon, it was really a no brainer.
We spent the days exploring the herb gardens on the premises, enjoying spa treatments, hiking up to the Temple of Poseidon for sunset and enjoying the cultural and artist delights including the Drops of Breath underwater performance which I’ll tell you more about soon.
Exploring Cape Sounion aka The Temple of Poseidon was a personal highlight due to the overwhelming history of the landmark destroyed in 480 BC by Persian troops and the vision of Aegeus, king of Athens, leaping to his death off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea.
