Let’s start with the team behind this work of genius. The track itself is written and produced by Brooke Candy (duh), Sia, Diplo and Jesse St John. The video is directed by Steven Klein and art directed/styled by Nicola Formichetti. I mean, you can’t really get better than that. This is literally Gaga circa 2010 levels of excellence. Note that what you are about to/have just watch(ed) is the DIRECTOR’S CUT and the track (which is beyond incredible) gets pretty lost amongst the narrative, editing and sound effect BUT SERIOUSLY WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME AN ARTIST DROPPED A CONCEPTUAL VIDEO LIKE THIS? It’s Sin City for 2014 with the most enigmatic display of, well, Opulence I have ever experienced visually on screen in such a short period of time.
The creative nods back to Brooke’s stripper days in the opening and bar sequences add genuine and personal story for the first time in her music video repertoire. Kudos, massive kudos. Let’s have it go viral now please, because by GOD this bitch deserves it.
