Yesterday the Huffington Post published an open letter that I wrote in support of investing in artists that you believe in based around today’s release of Natalia Kills’ sophomore album TROUBLE.
Kills has spent the last two (plus 25) years creating a beautifully crafted work of art, produced by her long time collaborator (and music video director) G, Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Jay-Z) and Emile Haynie (Lana Del Rey, Kid Cudi, Eminem), TROUBLE is the perfect blend of riot girl luxe meets acid trip hyper colour realism. Natalia also just launched her new website which experientially takes you through her childhood via short home movies sourced from the day she was born. Considering the lyrical content narrating the last 27 years of “trouble” from her father going to prison to running away to Paris, joining a cult and contemplating suicide – the curated visuals parallels turn the voyeuristic aural experience into a multidimensional canvas of a generation.
TROUBLE is without a doubt a record that surpasses Natalia’s contemporaries and pretty much anything charting right now – through progressive production, lyrical depth and genuine artistry. Images below from her new editorial by An Le in New York’s Scene Magazine. Trouble is available now.
