When you practically idolise a film director and watch and worship everything they have ever made, your natural instinct is to assume that every future project that they lay their hand to, will ultimately be perfection. So after I saw the first ever teaser trailer for Almodóvar’s I’m So Excited back in December, I was nervous at best – and I wasn’t the only one. It was JUST this performance scene.
You basically need to discard any initial reservations/hesitations that you might have (especially if you are more accustomed to the darker side of his work) and go and watch it. You won’t be disappointed. Almodóvar delivers on plot, characters (I mean, always the characters), genius scripting, humour, filth, more filth and cinematography that will literally leave you in hysterics. Worth every second, penny, hernia. Oh and here’s the full trailer. Casting gems include the cameo appearances from Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas and the beyond beautiful Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Hugo Silva and Blanca Suárez as Ruth.
