In November, I was photographed for a personal style spread in Metro newspaper by Phillip Waterman. The piece discusses my style influences, inspirations, evolution and brands and designers that I love. Read the article in full here and under the cut.
What are you wearing?
Black drill drop-crotch pants by my favourite London brand, Unconditional, a sheer black tank top by Rick Owens, Tom Binns jewellery and Converse.
Describe your style.
An eclectic mix of edgy Alexander Wang minimalism with an urban Y3 masculine undertone; sports luxe meets Williamsburg chic.
How has your style evolved?
I’ve always been a fan of monochrome but, in terms of fit and cut, my style has changed on a seasonal basis. As my body shape has evolved, I have definitely become more daring.
Any mistakes?
Super-tight tank tops and hugely baggy jeans, circa 2000.
How long does it take for you to get ready?
Minutes. Less if I have a beanie within reach.
What inspires you style-wise?
Different places – the runway, blogs, the street, style icons.
Do your friends dress the same as you?
My drag queen friends definitely don’t. With the boys, there’s some level of crossover, but in a word, no.
How does what you wear relate to how you live?
As I run my own company, I can essentially wear a slightly tailored version of the same outfit to a meeting, a launch party or nightclub. I have a habit of hitting the gym in designer tank tops and Dr Martens.
How do you shop?
A mix of on and offline. I adore the new Selfridges menswear designer section, NYC store Behaviour is basically me in shop form and definitely Mr Porter for online. Natalie Massenet, the founder, has absolutely nailed the e-commerce experience.
What is your favourite piece of clothing?
My black leather jacket by BLK DNM/J Lindeberg or my leather cap from a Hasidic Jewish milliner in Williamsburg.
Who are your favourite designers?
Gaultier and Rick Owens, but also emerging designers such as Asher Levine, Domingo Rodriguez and Asger Juel Larsen. I love heritage brands such as Levi’s, Converse and Dr Martens.
Anything you’d like to own but can’t afford?
A lot of Gianni Versace archive leather jackets.
If you could be anything in the world, what would it be?
Britney Spears, obviously.
If you could have a skill, what would it be? Teleportation?
It’d make travelling to fashion weeks a lot easier.
Tell us something no one knows about you.
Lana Del Rey and I are destined to be best friends.
