Last night saw the unveiling of the Karl Lagerfeld for shu uemura collaboration in Paris – what is essentially the unification of two icons. A detailed feature after having spent two hours in the presence of The Kaiser is set to go live on my column on The Huffington Post on Friday, in the meantime, here are some exclusive images of Karl Lagerfeld and Japanese super model Tao as the anime character ‘mon shu girl’ (created by KL) for the campaign, photographed by Unkle Karl himself.
In a similar vein to his work with Diet Coke (it is his official drink of choice and a key element of The Karl Lagerfeld Diet), the partnership with shu uemura is rooted in genuine and legitimate history. For the past twenty years, Lagerfeld has been using shu uemura eyeshadows for his (now world famous) fashion sketches – across Fendi, Chanel, KARL and so on. In his words, “no other company has such beautiful colors”. Below is an exclusive image of KL’s sketch of ‘mon shu girl’ along with the behind the scenes video from the campaign shoot at 7L and the second short film in the anime series. The first can be seen here.
The collection is available from Selfridges from October 14, with more information on the products available at su-kl.com.
