As some of you might know, I have quite an epic love for French and Spanish cinema – possibly related to having spent so much time there. Tonight, I was fortunate enough to see a preview of Les Amours Imaginaires (a.k.a. Heartbeats), a French-Canadian film about a rather leftfield sort of ménage à trois by Xavier Dolan. Playing to an uber vibrant colour-palette inspiration from by likes of Almodovar and somewhat reminiscent of Jules et Jim, but with a darker edge, Les Amours Imaginaires is possibly one of the best directed films to ever come out of French-Canada.
The director and writer, Xavier Dolan also plays one of the male protagonists of the film, alongside Niels Schneider and Monia Chokri. Check out the trailer below, and I highly recommend that you find some way to see this work of art. The acting, plot, script, cinematography and even the soundtrack were all flawless.
Happy to read your thoughts on the movie, I live in Montreal and loved the movie as well! Have you seen his first movie « J’ai tué ma mère! »?
ciao!

Hi Patrick,

I haven’t seen « J’ai tué ma mère! » yet, but I have just bought it on Amazon and will let you know what I think. Very excited about his third film too.
